What You'll Learn
Do you have davits on your building that aren't certified? Are your anchors compliant with the new OSHA regulations? If not, what are you using to wash the windows of your building?
OSHA issued a final ruling on Walking-Working Surfaces and Personal Protection Systems to better protect workers in general industry to prevent fall hazards. The ruling became effective January 2017 with phased in compliance dates. The compliance date for inspection and certification of permanent building anchorages was November 20, 2017. At this time, anchors either need to be up to code or you need to be utilizing other means for window washing.
With all these new rules, you don't want to miss the April Engineers Lunch on OSHA Fall Protection to hear Ziad Salameh PhD, PE, Principal-In-Charge and Andy Martin, Principal-Senior Building Scientist at ZS LLC (ZS) present a summary of the current OSHA Walking-Working Surfaces regulations with a specific focus on building owner responsibilities and best safety practices for Building Maintenance/Window Cleaning Access. They will introduce types of building maintenance access systems, identification of fall hazards, and the use of building maintenance access systems. In addition, they will explore the reasoning behind the new regulations and help clarify why following them is critical to provide for worker safety. Lastly, the presentation will outline a general action plan to bring a typical building into compliance and ways to get tasks completed while working toward compliance.
A facility tour will follow the presentation.
