Get to Know Kevin:

What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?

I am proud of having created the Paralegal Internship course as a for-credit class during my time as an Administrator at Roosevelt University. Getting real world experience as part of your college education can make a huge impact during your job search, and it was extremely satisfying helping my students achieve their goal of working in the legal profession.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

I was born in St. Louis and moved to Chicago when I was 9 years old. I grew up as a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, but much to the chagrin of my family in St. Louis, I have been a Chicago Cubs fan since the mid-90's after moving to the North Side of Chicago.

What are you reading/watching lately that you would recommend to others?

I recommend "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand, a biography of World War II hero and Olympic runner Louis Zamperini; and for anyone who has coached their kids playing youth sports, read Matthew Hiley's "Baseball Dads" for a good laugh! On the tube, you can't go wrong with The Sopranos or Breaking Bad - if you don't mind off-color language and people getting shot.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

I have two ideas that I try to live by, but unfortunately I didn't get this advice from them personally (I wish!): "Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen" - Michael Jordan, NBA Hall of Fame basketball player and "I never lose. I either win or learn" - Nelson Mandela, Former President of South Africa. When I coached youth baseball, I used to tell my players these quotes and I'd ask them which one they think Michael Jordan said, and most thought he said the second quote about never losing.

What’s your favorite part of being a member of BOMA?

I am thrilled beyond words to have been selected to lead your association, as I have already seen firsthand the commitment and dedication your members and staff have for BOMA/SC. I look forward to meeting the entire membership body and working tirelessly to support your work as commercial real estate professionals and continue as an indispensable partner and trusted resource!

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?

My wife Olga and I have been married for 23 years and have three awesome kids: Taylor is a senior at the University of Louisville planning to work in sports event planning; Kalie is a sophomore at the University of Kentucky studying journalism and dance; and Dominic is a freshman in high school and plays baseball. Kalie and Dominic both have Type 1 diabetes and we are extremely proud of how they don't let that get in the way of them enjoying life to the fullest!
