Want to make your business better, but don't know where to turn? We are bringing in an expert from Cook County to layout best practices, and help property managers stay on the cutting- edge.
The tax attorney has different things he needs from the property manager to be able to fight the taxes, i.e., rent roll, vacancy reports, marketing materials, and they might want an appraisal done. The data can be cumbersome if you are not keeping accurate, up-to-date records and the filing period is short. It's also very interesting to understand how the bill is generated to get a feel for how the total bill comes about. Retail tenants pay a percentage of tax increase as do also larger office tenants in some instances. Those tenants want to know that you are diligently fighting tax increases and the leases state that they can fight them if you are not. Those tenants also pay their proportionate share of that tax attorney bill, so again, they want the most bang for their buck.
